My favourite road 7

This was painted quite early in the morning when the colours are less defined. You can see hints of the upcoming poppies that grow in abundance in some fields over the next few weeks. SOLD

My favourite road 6

Another painting from my favourite road. Painted at that special time about half an hour before sundown on a bright summer evening.

My favourite road 5

SOLD If you look over to your left as you leave the road (near Falmer) driving towards Ditchling Beacon, you'll see this beautiful pastoral scene of a group of farm buildings nestled in amongst the downs. I am always aware of how quickly the weather and light conditions change on this stretch of road. I love it!

Imagined boat

SOLD A discarded boat by an imagined bay. Where do you think it could be?

Field scene (at speed)

SOLD A lot of the images I am making recently have been seen through the side window of my car. Here is a view of a field near East Dean. The poppies are just starting to appear in the hedgerows, banks and fields.

Near East Dean

I've looked at this collection of buildings for years yet this is the first painting I've made of it. It reminds me of the American painter Andrew Wyeth. The subject, not the painting! SOLD

Barcelona by night

I know it's not Sussex, but here's a painting from a recent stay in Barcelona. Looking back along the harbour from Barcelonetta. In fact I'm going to set up another separate blog for 'non' Susex' paintings. You heard it here first! SOLD

My new favourite road 4

Back again on the road from Brighton to Ditchling Beacon. This was painted mid morning and hopefully shows that beautiful contrast you often see in the English summer where there is bright, direct sunlight but with a dark 'angry' sky. SOLD

Wish Tower Cafe

Eastbournes seafront is BRILLIANT! in so many ways. From the new cycle paths past the Sovereign Centre past the Fishing Huts and the Natural Fitness Centre, The Pier, The Bandstand, Wish Tower right up to Hollywell. It really is a wonderful couple of miles. I particularly love the 'middle' avenue that runs from opposite the Grand Hotel up to All Saints Hospital where you will find a cute little circular 'look out'. This is a view of the Wish Tower Cafe (where I worked as a student in 1974)

Belle Tout 2

The winding road between Beachy Head and Birling Gap is a beautiful drive, particularly early in the morning or just bfore it gets dark. This is a view towards the Belle Tout lighthouse (without the actual building!)

Near Ringmer

There are some great views as you approach Ringmer from Lewes, particularly just before the turning to Glyndebourne. This painting is taken from the road and as a lot of my 'viewing' of the countryside is from a car, the foreground shows 'blurring' with the downland appearing 'still' SOLD

My new favourite road 3

Here's another painting from the road between Brighton and Ditchling Beacon. Pretty hot and sticky in Sussex today, shouldn't complain though, in a couple of weeks the days start getting shorter again!

Newhaven Harbour

I haven't painted much around Newhaven (except for the painting as part of the original 12) So here's a painting looking accross the harbour arm towards the Seaford road. More from Newhaven to follow over the next few months.

Near Lewes

As you approach Lewes from Eastbourne, just after the new bridge/flyover there is a beautiful view to the left. Here is the first of what will be a number of paintings of this particular view.
