Calm sea

It was a beautiful evening yesterday. Went for a walk in the evening with my mum, dad and nephew Luke (who went swimming with his trousers on) We sat near the Wish Tower and looked out at the effect of the light on the water. At some points the sea looked luminous. SOLD

Near Beachy Head

There are a number of trees like this on the open land near the cliffs at Beach Head. Bent over by years of persistent wind I have always found them visually appealing. SOLD

My favourite road 9

Another view from the road between Falmer and Ditchling Beacon just north of Brighton. I haven't been here for a month or so. Its still as lovely as ever! SOLD

Winchelsea beach

Well, Winchelsea beach has always been a favourite destination of mine. When I was a child my Dad would take me to find 'beach diamonds'. Tiny pieces of coloured glass made smooth by the sea. In the past few years there have been some interesting developments with the houses on the beach. Go and have a look, some of the places are just brilliant.
This is early evening. SOLD

Eastbourne Beach. Early morning

Most of my recent work has been representaional to a large degree. This is an abstracted view based on of a section of Eastbourne beach near the wishtower, early morning. SOLD

Approaching Birling Gap

This is a view approaching Birling Gap from East Dean. A beautiful road with some wonderful views. The verges by the side of the road around here often have masses of what look to be mini orchids. Very nice! SOLD

From the train

I often take the train to Brighton if I have business in the city centre as it's so convenient AND you get to see some fantastic countryside on the way. I always carry a camera with me and this is a view south as you approach Lewes from Eastbourne.

Extreme

It was beautiful weather for the Extreme sports weekend here in Eastbourne. At times during the Saturday afternoon the sea was an almost Caribbean turquiose, though it was also quite choppy. Later in the day it became 'muddier' but beautiful nevertheless. SOLD

Newhaven marine study

I saw this recently when visiting Newhaven Fort and I love the vertical and horizontal lines. This is a study for a larger painting to be undertaken soon.

Seascape 3

Another seascape, this time a little more seasonal. It's certainly been warmer the last few days and it never ceases to amaze me how quickly the colour of the sea can change. SOLD

Monday 14 July 2008

Rye

Now, Rye is a town I really DO like. I tend to visit 3 or 4 times a year and I'd love to live there. Theres a tea shop near the church in the Citadel where my Mother worked in the late 30's. Its still open! This a view taken from the road to Camber. SOLD

Wednesday 9 July 2008

Hastings Twilight

There's a certain light that I've seen a number of times in Hastings Old Town looking from the beach inland. Dark rich sky with saturated highlights on certain buildings. It's similar to the evening light you sometimes see in Brighton, but of course the differences in the built and natural landscape create another feel altogether. SOLD

Tuesday 8 July 2008

A bit warmer today...

... but still pretty cold for July! This is another seascape (incidentally, I've never really tackled the sea before) It's been interesting. There's slightly more green visible today. SOLD

Monday 7 July 2008

Mid Summer!

Well, what a day! After a few weeks of (pretty much) beautiful summer weather, today is grey, bleak and cold. A seascape: just sea, sky and shore. SOLD

Near Ringmer 2

Here's another view, looking to the right as you approach Ringmer from Lewes. I love this stretch of countryside, particularly as you turn into the road that takes you to Glyndebourne. SOLD

Friday 4 July 2008

My favourite road 8

Here's another view of the little group of farm buildings nestled between the fields and clumps of trees on my favourite road (near Ditchling Beacon). This was painted early evening when the sky was a beautiful shade of deep lilac. SOLD

Wednesday 2 July 2008

Newhaven Harbour 2

Newhaven is a funny place. I can't figure out whether I love it or loathe it. A bit like Boney M. This is a view accross the Ouse at some derelict boats with the downs behind. SOLD
