My new favourite road 2

SOLD Here's another view from the road approaching Dichling Beacon (travelling from Brighton) looking west. I love the sun and we've had a great two weeks weather wise, but I must say it's a bit of a relief having a few dull days!

Drowning boat

I know this is supposed to feature my daily paintings of Sussex, but I came across a photo I took last year that I had planned to use as the basis for a painting.
Last August I spent a very pleasant weekend in County Sligo at a friends' birthday party. It was in a beautiful country house hotel about 5 miles from Sligo and I took a number of photos over the weekend (as you do) This is based on a partly sunken rowing boat near the boat house. Earlier in the weekend I had a 'seaweed bath' that I wasn't really looking forward to, but like a lot of things in life, once I tried it I LOVED IT! Try it if you ever get a chance.

Imagined downland

Have been listening to 'The Imagined Village' with Eliza Carthy, Billy Bragg and others recently.
Heres an 'Imagined Downland' painting.

Crowlink

SOLD - At the top of the hill at Friston, there's a road running by the side of the church that leads down to a fascinating area with wonderful views to the East, West and South. I suppose it's a 'hamlet' with just a few residential buildings. There's a walk down to the cliffs that links up with the coastal path between Beachy Head and Cuckmere Haven. A couple of years ago I was walking here and found a number of tiny wild orchids. It's a great area for a walk and only 10 minutes or so from Eastbourne. In the picture you can see the road leading into Eastbourne (the blobs are cars).

West Sussex?

Here's a painting made from a drawing I did a while ago at Shoreham Harbour. When I created the 12 Sussex images for the 'Railway style' (East) Sussex collection I did one of Shoreham, only to find out when I'd finished it that it was actually in West Sussex! It's a beautiful area with some great houseboats.SOLD

Belle Tout

There are many outstanding views on the road past Beachy Head. This is one of my favourites as you drive towards Birling Gap. Does anyone know what's missing from the painting? I'll give you a clue. It's been featured in several TV programmes, including an acclaimed drama in the 1980s

Over the hills...

SOLD. In the studio today and another view from 'my new favourite road' near Ditchling Beacon. Have taken a bit of ribbing about my 'world class road' comment on the BBC the other day (referring to the A27 between Polegate and Lewes). A friend, Steve said 'The road between Eastbourne and Seaford, now THAT'S world class' Actually it is a beautiful road with briliant views and I will be painting over that way over the next few months. The road goes through East Dean and Friston where, on August 9th and 10th there will the first OpenArt festival. Details to follow. Incidentally, this is my favourite painting from the past month.
